My 600lb Life is a fan favourite, with some pretty dramatic scenes, but fans are interesting in one man only—so, who is the doctor?

The TLC show has had a successful run since 2012, and doesn’t look to stop anytime soon. Following the stories of morbidly obese individuals who begin at 600lb, we see their attempts to lose weight to a health level, often with a gastric bypass.

The show airs weekly, and although the show has provided some interesting characters through the hospital doors, Dr Now has been a constant since the very beginning.

Who is the doctor on My 600lb Life?

Younan Nowzaradan, or better known as Dr Now, is the famous doctor on the show. An Iranian-American surgeon, he specialises in vascular and bariatric surgery.

In 1970, he graduated from the University of Tehran with medicine degree, before taking part in the Medical Orientation Program at Saint Louis University and completing a Rotating Surgical Internship at St. John Hospital in Detroit.

On Instagram, he has over 300,000 followers under the handle @younannowzaradan on Instagram.

Dr Now’s TV appearances

Although he found fame on My 600lb Life in 2012, he’s actually appeared on various other shows. In fact, his own son, Jonathan Nowzaradan is a director and producer of My 600lb Life.

His son is the co-founder of Megalomania, a production company that makes documentaries. The company’s first big break was World’s Heaviest Woman, who at 841 pounds was a patient of Dr Now after being turned away by 14 doctors.

The My 600 Pound Life doctor has also appeared on episodes of Body Shock, and even used to appear theme parks in the early 2000s to encourage the youth to make healthier choices.
