LGBT

Arguably, one of the most frightening experiences for any member of the LGBT community is coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. In the past, being anything other than straight was considered ‘abnormal’. Fortunately, times are changing and majority of people have found a place of belonging, as well as support from a celebrity who fully believes in their rights. Below is a list of five celebrities who have dedicated their time and effort towards raising awareness for the LGBT community.

Lady Gaga

LGBT

Lady Gaga has been an active participant in raising awareness for the LGBT community and has gained momentous amounts of followers for it. Many of her ‘Little Monsters’ belong to the community, and she has never kept quiet when she believed that people’s rights were being abused. Her hit single ‘Born This Way’ promoted acceptance for people’s differences as well as acceptance for oneself.

Harry Styles

LGBT

Harry Styles has always expressed his ideologies about being gay and accepting each other. He took to Twitter and Instagram when Gay Marriage was legalized across the USA, saying: “Huge day for America.. Happy to see the news. All the love.” Followed by an image of the rainbow.

Harry also showed his support when he wore Michael Sam’s football jersey after he was announced as the first football player to be openly gay.

Demi Lovato

LGBT

Demi has openly called herself a Christian and has even spoken about her attendance at Christian Schools when she was young. But, she also conveys her message about LGBT rights, saying: “God wouldn’t condemn anyone for loving another human of the same sex.”

She is a firm believer in equal rights and same-sex love, and is involved in a number of gay-rights campaigns.

Miley Cyrus

LGBT

Cyrus is working hard to raise awareness about sexuality and not conforming to gender norms, and she has openly said that she herself is gender fluid. Her Instagram has been used to promote people’s transgender stories, and she commented on legalizing gay marriage, saying: “We’re finally at a place where the majority of Americans support LGBT rights and we have finally achieved nationwide marriage equality, f*ck yeah!””

 Caitlyn Jenner

LGBT

Last, but definitely not least, Caitlyn Jenner’s transformation has allowed her to speak out about LGBT issues in the world. She’s planning to write weekly blogs about lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender peoples’ problems and challenges that they face in the world.

“Caitlyn is still wanting to do the work to make a difference in the community,” trans health advocate Chandi Moore said when asked about Cait and her feelings towards the transgender community she is now a part of. “Society needs to see us as being normal human beings.”

It is heart-warming to see people with major influence in the world use their power to do good and improve people’s lives. Times are slowly but surely changing, and in the world of LGBT, for the better.
