Highlights

It was sad when the 1980s sitcom Punky Brewster was canceled because Soleil Moon Frye was so charming in the main role. In the decades since, the actress has become known for her Bohemian style, sweet personality, and passion for life as much as for her creative talent. Whether Frye is talking about one of her children or the relationship she had with Charlie Sheen, she doesn't have a problem with complete honesty.

After Soleil Moon Frye starred in Punky Brewster, she also had a fairly major part in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Her acting career has always been interesting to follow along with. Here's what she has been doing since those two beloved TV shows.

What Did Soleil Moon Frye’s Acting Career Look Like After Punky Brewster?

After all 88 episodes of Punky Brewster aired from 1984 to 1988, Frye voiced her beloved character in the animated TV series It's Punky Brewster, which aired from 1985 to 1986. She then guest-starred on a few TV shows, including Saved by the Bell and The Wonder Years.

However, until the actress landed her major role in Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the early 2000s, she didn't have any roles that were as wonderful as Punky Brewster.

In the late '90s, Frye starred in two made-for-TV movies: I've Been Waiting For You and The Killing Secret. The former is a horror story adapted from the Lois Duncan novel Gallows Hill and the latter is adapted from terrible real-life events. In I've Been Waiting For You, Frye played a high school mean girl named Kyra Thompson who torments the new girl Sarah Zoltane who everyone suspects of being of a witch.

In The Killing Secret, Frye played Emily, who becomes pregnant with Greg's baby. Greg murders Emily and tries to cover it up. The movie is definitely darker than most of Frye's other projects.

What Did Soleil Moon Frye Do After Sabrina The Teenage Witch?

Soleil Moon Frye played Roxie King in 66 episodes of Sabrina The Teenage Witch that aired from 2001 to 2003. She and Sabrina Spellman live together at college and bond after they have a bit of trouble getting along at first.

Until 2005, the actress voiced the character of Zoey Howzer on the animated series The Proud Family and in the TV movie based on the show. She continued to do voice work on Planet Sheet and Robot Chicken before hosting the reality show Home Made Simple.

Frye reprised two of her most famous roles for two reboots in the 2020s. She voiced Zoey once again in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and came back for the 2021 Punky Brewster reboot, which is available for streaming on Peacock.

The actress told Salon.com in 2021 that she enjoyed playing the sweet and fun character again. This time around, Punky is a divorced mother who begins raising a young girl named Izzy who doesn't have a family.

Frye said, "Through this experience, she starts to really rediscover her Punky power. I love that it's really about how we can come of age at different stages in our life. I can relate to that so much. I always said, I didn't know where Punky ended and I began, because we were truly the same in so many ways. I can say that that is true today as well. So, it was really important for us to keep the authenticity of their original. Where would Punky be now."

However, Frye's fans are most impressed by the documentary that she directed and produced called Kid90. She appeared in most of the film and shared her tough experiences as a child star. Frye explained that it was tough to have people make fun of her because of her chest size and that she wished that strangers would have been more compassionate. The movie is also heartbreaking as it delves into many actors who passed away young, like Justin Pierce and Jonathan Brandis. Frye was very close to them.

In a 2021 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Soleil Moon Frye chatted about Kid90 and the tapes that she recorded when she was a teenager. It's amazing to watch Kid90 and see the actual footage that she had from the 1990s.

Frye said, "I spent so many hours and days and nights crying, listening to the audio tapes and watching the footage and reliving those painful experiences over and over and over. It was really a form of therapy for me to work through it. Then to come to the realization that all of the experiences that I've had in life, all of the pain from the time I was little, I was taught that you take [it] and turn it into art."

She continued to Harper's Bazaar, "So all of that pain, the trauma, the light, the love, the joy, every moment of it brought me to now. I really look at it as all happening for me and not to me, because it brought me to here. It has been messy at times, yet it's been such a beautiful life. And I am so grateful for it."

What Is Soleil Moon Frye Doing Today?

Currently, Soleil Moon Frye is still voicing her character Zoey in The Proud Family reboot. In June 2023, The Daily Mail reported that there would be a season 3 of the show.

While her IMDb page doesn't list any other TV shows and Frye isn't starring in any upcoming movies, she is a caring mother who is raising her four children Story Goldberg, Lyric Sonny Roads Goldberg, Jagger Joseph Blue Goldberg, and Poet Sienna Rose Goldberg.

Soleil Moon Frye has also been focused on a new chapter of life. According to Entertainment Tonight, in December 2020, she and her husband Joseph Goldberg shared that they would be breaking up.

Frye said in a November 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, "I'm dating myself. It's awesome. Here's what I've been doing lately, which is really beautiful. I have been taking myself on dates and doing self-love. That has been really where I've been at, which is amazing."

The actress is also very involved in activism. In September 2022, CNN reported that Frye works with an organization called CORE, which stands for Community Organized Relief Effort. She traveled to Poland and the Ukraine to help refugees.
